Kaimata Revisted 2007
With the points trophy so hot this year, there were 5 walkers who decided to get double points for doing the Nationals on the Saturday and then turning up to race this on the Sunday. Not sure how you did it Katie, Dave, Vanessa, Marlene and particularly Natasha who was second Senior home to show us all how easy it is.
This course didn’t appear to be friendly today with only 5 walkers going under their handicap times. Mind you there were some good excuses given. Did 3 hours or 2.5 hours the day before. Went to Valda’s 50th celebrations. My excuse – well I am part of Gaylene’s experiment as to what is the best wine and quantity to help prepare for an event. I had 3 glasses of white and 1 of red – didn’t work, terrible walk. Mike had 4 glasses of red and shot round the course like a cork from a champagne bottle, coming home first in the Senior Men’s race. Mike therefore recommends Merlot.
Dennis Hastie had the walk of the day. He did yet another PB in a time of 62’43. Now Dennis had no wine the previous night and did 3 hours training on the Saturday – so imagine if he had 3 glasses of Merlot! Dennis was second Senior Man and Tony Burrell was 3rd. Fastest time was Jeff in a time of 60’02. Jeff had been experimenting with dropping his hip the day before as per Rachel’s training – I think the hip has now frozen, so Rachel could you now teach him how to raise the hip again?
In the Senior Women’s race Natasha made it a one filly race. The 5K in Auckland was just a warm up for this 10K and she made no contest of it. Tanya Campbell was 2nd with Gaylene and Vanessa 3rd equal. Vanessa took out fastest time on the day of 61’51 – which is all the more amazing after doing 59 minutes the previous day.
There is no stopping Brian in his pursuit of the Points trophy this year. Flat course or hills he conquers all. I thought I had managed to get his estimate correct this week, but again he went under his time, catching Ivor with 150 metres to go. Brian was 1st, Ivor 2nd and Arthur 3rd. Brian again took fastest time in 35’01.
