Ivor's Oakura Outing 2007
What a day we picked for this race. Clear blue sky, no wind and just amazing views along the coast (just a typical day in the Naki!).
With 8 club members doing Rotorua in a week and other people out of town, there was concern that not many would turn up. This was not the case; I think it could be the venue for our Morning tea at Ivor’s place overlooking the Tasman sea (many thanks Ivor). 23 people took part.
This event is the first raced on handicap for the season, which can make for some interesting placings. People’s times can only be worked on what was achieved last season and so it proved today. If people haven’t done the work during the Summer, the hills on this course bite pretty hard.
In the Senior men’s 10K, Peter Adamski raced away from the field, and demonstrated that he will be much faster this year than last. Dave Wackrow’s marathon training has obviously made him fit and strong as he easily took second and Jeff Wells stormed home in 3rd (smiling all the way because hills are our friends). Glenn Burrell took fastest time.
The Women’s 10K was a much closer race, with only 30 seconds separating the first 3. Katie Tahere has obviously recovered from her injuries as she took out first place, followed by Rachel and Vanessa. Fastest time went to Vanessa.
In the Masters event over 5K, Ivor blew Arthur away this year. I am not sure what Ivor is on, but someone forgot to tell him you are meant to slow down a bit as you get older. Ivor was 1 minute 30 seconds faster than last year! You are an inspiration to us all.
