Ivors's Gut Buster 2010
A great day and a great turn out. This is a tough course (hence the name) but seems to bring out the best in walkers.
Alan's return to handicapping was greeted with groans by some as the handicaps were read out. Obviously some have forgotten the age old tradition of slipping a bottle of red to the handicapper!!!
Changeable weather greeted the 23 walkers and 6 helpers. Fortunately the weather held and it was warm with a pleasant breeze. The Morattis and Giberds turned up on the dot of 9:30am for their warm up (must still be daylight saving in Inglewwod!!).
Off the field went at a cracking pace - Mike N went out hard and the suspicions were that he couldn't hold on to that pace. However the motivation of catching those in front was enough to keep him going and to hold off some af the faster finishers. One of Mike's best times in a couple of years. Joelle, Helen and Peter also did very well against their handicaps. Eric was the fastest man with 55:40 mins, Arthur in the Vets at 36:45 mins, Rachel 64:10 mins and Deanna in the Juniors at 20:30 mins.
Good to see Sandra back walking - the veering off the course for a toilet stop was undertsandable but exactly why she left the course for a second time remains a mystery!!
Many thanks to our great host Ivor. Morning tea at Ivor's is always the highlight of this event.
See you all at Inglewood.
