Pukekura Wind Down 2008
A clear but brisk morning welcomed the fifteen competitors in the Club’s final event for the season. In fact the breeze made it feel like mid-winter at times.
This event is known as the wind-down with implications of a gentle Sunday morning stroll. Nothing could be further from the truth! This is a competitive event, and with only 5kms to close up the handicap starts, walkers started out very quickly.
Turning from Rogan Street in Coronation Ave put the cold stiff breeze straight into our faces. Those who put a big effort into Coronation Ave turned in some pretty good times.
Whilst the numbers were down there were some faces that we hadn’t seen for a while. Their return was welcomed.
Jeff and Tanya started out together and quickly moved to the front. They were able to hold off the fast finishing Mike. These results didn’t have a significant impact on the Points Trophy as the leading competitors were not present.
This was the first morning after the change to daylight saving, although nobody admitted to being late because of the change. However it was nice to see the sun out and our evening walks should be a little more pleasant. We were lucky to have morning tea in a little sun-trap at the back of Linda and Wacky’s home – thanks Dave and Linda for your hospitality.
Next week is the Daily News Half-Marathon for the Norm Morriss Memorial Cup—good luck to all taking part.
The date and venue of this year’s prize-giving has been set. This year’s prize giving will be Thursday 23 October 2008 from 7:00pm at the New Plymouth Cobb & Co. See you there.
